Perspective is everything

In 2020, I decided I would start offering courses in ECOnnected Yoga

It started small. I wanted to offer workshops in beautiful venues across Ireland where people would connect with one another, with themselves, and with the more-than-human world. I intended to show that the three relationships were all inseparable, and thus to show that this way of seeing ourselves was a key to healing.

I began by offering a workshop in the beautiful Tivraun House in County Mayo, then owned by a wonderful man called Sean Cox. I focused on Patanjali’s but also on Yajnavalkya’s Yoga Sutras as a way of connecting old and new, evolutionary theory and ancient awareness practice. Here is a sun salutation version I created at around that time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qsbk5GCwIpw&feature=youtu.be

It was never my intention to grow a huge following, but I did want to connect with people. Part of my own story is my addicted brain, one feature of which is disconnection. Here is another short practice of yoga and meditation with philosophy as practice woven through. I do hope it’s useful. It’s possible to practice this in a chair, too. https://youtu.be/jAd7BBzQWOs

One day, there was some news from China. The unreal news that a whole city had been shut down. Pictures on Twitter showing police and doctors in hazmat suits manhandling people forcibly into isolation units, apartment blocks being bolted closed with people inside, banging at the door. We shook our heads in horror and awe.

Suddenly, everything stopped. I was out of business.

Like everyone else, I’ve had to pivot. It’s been an amazing year. In so many extraordinary ways, I have been lucky, beyond belief. I have never been healthier. I still have an addicted brain but I have managed to curtail the worst excesses. I now remember going to bed at night. I struggle mightily (and my deepest apologies for my anxieties go to those who have tried to help me with creating websites, posts, moving from one host to another, attending webinars, failing, trying again, failing…) with the vicissitudes of online life, with the unhealthy nature of sitting for hours in front of a laptop achieving very little but swollen feet.

But I’ve used the practices I’ve been researching and developing. They work. It works. Awareness matters. Connection matters.
